don’t like the song , don’t like her voice too scruffy, and DON’t like the band too modern.
One hot damn version of this song – thanks for the upload,,,
@nexthoudini edit: . . . to determine what good music sounds like.
Williams has more music and stark raw sack in one power chord than the BF flamers combined could muster in an entire performance.
@nexthoudini
Getting sodomized is ‘high class’ in you book?
Who are you to determine what’s good music sounds like. Go listen to ghey Ben.
@nexthoudini Did you see the CMT “Crossroads” w/Lucinda & Elvis (Costello) from 2001? It was one of the first of that show. Still going strong 9 yrs later.
Sheryl Crow WISHES she was Lucinda Williams.
Anger, spite, fire – come enjoy all these things from a superb singer.
The way she curls her lip and belts out that gravelly snarl – so good.
I could see ol’ John Lennon himself putting this song on one of his albums.
@nexthoudini
Have you ever listened to a Lucinda William’s CD? She’s an excellent musician with 3 Grammys under her belt so far and was named “America’s best songwriter” by Time magazine in 2002. The song is simplistic and a little repetitive, but it has a nice bluesy, gritty riff to it and makes for a good rock song. Williams doesn’t have the best voice I’ve ever heard and would never make it on American Idol, but it works for her.
@onefodderunit I can see how high-class you are by your spelling of “gay”. And Ben Folds is always hilarious. There’s something to be said about tongue-in-cheek comedy in lyrics; all the best songwriters have senses of humor. Part of the reason why Lucinda Williams doesn’t fall into that category. And, uh, I forgot to mention the supremely talented Tim Minchin. But it’s not that I don’t like this; it’s that this is bad music. Untalented drivel. Repetitive pap I don’t see how anyone could like.
@nexthoudini
Ben Folds? How ghey. No wonder you don’t appreciate this.
@onefodderunit Yeah, because you can tell from a comment what music I was reared on. To tell you the truth, my favorite musician is Elvis Costello, for the great voice and lyrics. Out of today’s music, I like Ben Folds, the Old 97s, and a lot of folk. But go ahead, assume my musical rearing simply because I point out how horrid a song “Joy” is, how utterly joyless, repetitive, and awful the music and lyrics are, and how the singing’s nothing to write home about either.
@nexthoudini
When reared on Black Eyed Peas, you’re not expected to appreciate a performance like this one.
@kellypeterson55555 And beautiful bayous around it!
Why would anyone ever record the song “Joy”? It’s the worst abomination of a song ever created, with the worst lyrics ever to match.
I met Lucinda at Mountain Stage in Charleston, WV and a friend on mine and her and her band went to the Marriott and sat around and talked for couple hours-she is truly a fine person and sooo talented and a kick band!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@42smitty42
Yes, Doug Pettibone. Sorry to see him go.
@Brunogirlfriend
This was part of her previous band. Doug Pettibone on guitar had been with her since “World Without Tears.
She’s not sick as far as I know. Her sister is…Or are you thinking of Victoria Williams…?
@jakollee Doug Pettibone i think.
Wow she looks great and sounds strong here. Great band, yeah, who are those guys. Not her current band.
