@darkkoolman1 It’s neat that you are into this at 12 . I liked jazz age stuff at age 12, but all I had was my 78s, since youtube and the internet did not exist.
Hope you enjoy them all!
its amazing how they made the stage with the gient legs and shoes lol
I miss the jazz age why did jazz go out it was so popular :( thats why when i grow up i ant to open 6 different jazz clubs in 6 different cities so im working hard at school and everything thumbs up to bring jazz back for the roaring 20′s its nearly 2020 so thumbs up XD
Dixie sang with Bing on two recordings, I think made in 1937 or 1938. One was called The Way You Look Tonight. The other, perhaps on the reverse side, was A Fine Romance.
so beautiful….
thanks for sharing….
Heres the eighteen year old Dixie Lee singing her heart out, unaware that her short life will be tinged with tragedy and unhappiness. Wonderful clip, rather poignant as well.
Dixie Lee was an absolute cutie. I never saw anyone do a dance number the way Tom Patricola does. This was filmed long before my time, but it just takes me somewhere. I am totally mesmerized by this whole number.
Dixie Lee sure was a cutie. Too bad her life has such a sad end. I have always wanted to see her film “Redheads On Parade” from 1935. Anyone here seen it? Does it still exist?
Matt
Very nice to see and hear Dixie Lee in this film clip. I knew who she was from books on Bing Crosby but I hadn’t seen her in a film. She is a very good singer in the 1920′s style in this film clip.
Dixie was my Great Aunt and this is delightful piece of film. Uncle Bing often tried to get her to come on his shows but she a naturally shy woman and preferred raising the boys. My Grandmother tells me she was a delight and seeing this is a real treat.
Did Crosby think his wife Dixie was a threat to him professionally. She faded from the Movie scene pretty quickly following her marriage to Crosby – he had a way of getting his own way. Look what happened to Harry Barris by 1932. Read “Bing Crosby, the Hollow Man”.
That tap dancer is just the most incredible ever!
scary clown!
What a jewel of a number! I had read of Dixie Lee in Rusty Frank’s book; but I had never seen her. This is a rare treat!
Unfortunately this was NOT shot in color. Fox shot this entire movie in Black and White for their Widescreen Grandeur process. Any evidence of color in this print owes to its poor condition.
Dixie Lee did not renew her Fox Contract in order to solidify her marriage to Crosby. Very talented woman. By looking at the close-ups of the Chorus Girls while Patricaola is dancing it appears that this segment was originally shot in Two color Technicolor. Was “Happy Days” originally all or part Technicolor?
What a real gem. Now if only the details has said what movie of hers this is from. She was my grandfather’s cousin and I grew up knowing that I was somehow related to Bing. Dennise Crosby (of Star Trek fame) is her granddaughter.
Am I crazy, but I love Frank Richardson’s voice. Catchy tune, too. I keep humming it.
i love bing crosby as a singer but i believe that he was nasty in the nest . it is a shame what happended to dixie lee. thanks
I remeber a story my mother told me about her. She went into rehab at a center in Rome City Indiana that was owned By the Catholic diocese of Fort Wayne and South Bend. She went there to stay out of the limelight and away from all the crowds. My mother told me that my grandmother told her some years ago.
great clip .dixie lee is really forgotten today . she was married to bing crosby and i dont think she was treated very well by him. she drank alot in her latter years i have heard .thanks first time i have heard her sing
ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC!!
lets hear the adorable sounds of female tap shoes
Brilliant!
